Maryann Wright, Candidate for Richland School District Two School Board
Why did you choose Emerge?
I chose Emerge because I wanted to learn more about how to successfully campaign for public office. Emerge provided a safe nurturing and impactful place to do so.
What office are you running for and why?
I’m running for Richland 2 School Board because I want to serve my community. I believe we should all do what we can to make our community better.
What is your vision for your community?
My vision for my community is one where diversity is valued and everyone is treated with dignity and respect; where every child receives an equitable and appropriate education.
What/Who inspires you to run for office?
My parents instilled in me at an early age the desire to serve others. They were community activists before it was popular. If anyone was in need, they knew they could count on my parents to help if they were able.
Which Democratic woman inspires you and why?
The Democratic woman who inspires me is Kamala Harris because she is smart and committed to endeavors that improve the lives of all Americans not just the rich and powerful.
What is one thing you gained from Emerge and would like to share with others?
I gained many things from Emerge but if I had to pick just one, it would be knowledge. Emerge provided me with the tools and a solid foundation to run for school board so that I was able to develop the courage to do something I’ve wanted to do for sometime.
