Read moreLe Tanya (Tammy) Williams was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved and settled in Chester, South Carolina in 1999. A graduate of York Technical College, Tammy holds Associate Degrees in Business Management, with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Human Resources, and a minor in Administration. She continued her education by earning a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling. Ms. Williams graduated The Palmetto Leadership Program in 2010 and the Midwest Academy’s “Organizing For Social Change” in 2013. In 2016, Tammy earned certificates associated with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counseling, and she is a graduate of South Carolina New and Beginning Farming and Clemson Master Gardeners.
In 2009, Tammy founded Battered But Not Broken, a nonprofit designed to assist those combating drug and alcohol abuse and more. Through her endeavors with Battered But Not Broken, Tammy has helped to feed, clothe and find shelter for more than 750 individuals and families. Through BBNB, Tammy opened a home, The House of Magdalene, for previously incarcerated women. The House of Ruth is being constructed to help more women with similar struggles.
Tammy serves as the Co-Chair for the Chester County Community Coalition and is a Rotarian Member Community Organizer for The Organic Helpers. She also serves an Ambassador to the Chester County Chamber of Commerce. Due to her activism, she was Chester’s Hometown Hero from CN2 news. Tammy is quite active in her church, serving on several auxiliaries, including as Trustee.
Through the Organic Helpers, Tammy has been able to bring the local government and community together. Being a part of a healthy community is important to Tammy. She firmly states she is “the change that she desires to see.”
She is married with one daughter, son in law and two grandchildren. Tammy enjoy working hard for a holistic community, and she assists with current projects to make Chester a better place to live, grow and retire for all.
